Zur Professionalisierung der akademischen Weiterqualifizierung hat das Bayerische Zentrum f\u00fcr Politische Theorie das Bayerische Promotionskolleg Politische Theorie initiiert. Es bietet einen institutionellen Rahmen zur Durchf\u00fchrung der Promotion. Dazu stellt es eine anspruchsvolle, nach internationalen Ma\u00dfst\u00e4ben exzellente fachliche Ausbildung bereit und garantiert eine intensive wissenschaftliche Betreuung. Als Austauschplattform bietet es die M\u00f6glichkeit zur Vernetzung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea of Concordia, of political cohesion in a fractured society, is as old as political thought itself. From the Greek polis through the Christian Middle Ages to the early modern period, thinkers such as Aristotle, Nicholas of Cusa, and Jean Bodin asked how communities can hold together despite competing interests, religious division, and the pursuit of private ambition.<\/p>\n

While the contemporary political landscape, shaped by polarization, rising nationalism, and digital echo chambers, lends these questions new urgency, we seek to revive the rich tradition of political thinking on Concordia and Discordia. Our aim is to build a bridge between the recurring questions of the history of ideas and the pressing challenges of the present: how, by whom, and under what conditions can political concord still be conceived today?<\/p>\n

We are pleased to announce the fourth biennial conference of the European Hobbes Society (EHS) which will take place in Regensburg, Germany, in August 2023.<\/p>\n

The conference focuses on how Hobbes\u2019s ideas are discussed and taken up by other thinkers of the 17th and 18th century. Its aim is to provide a better understanding of the manifold \u2013 and often indirect \u2013 ways in which Hobbes\u2019s theory influenced the philosophy of the Enlightenment and to stimulate dialogue between Hobbes scholars and other historians of early modern philosophy.<\/p>\n

Conferences of the EHS traditionally employ a workshop format: Speakers will provide written papers which are pre-circulated to all participants. At the conference, papers will be commented on by preassigned commentators and discussed in the plenum.
